A children’s book author, Julianne Moore has learned one very important lesson: not to count on her 11-year-old son Caleb! In a humorous appearance on the Today show, the mother-of-two joked that she quickly learned her kids pay little attention to her success, a fact of life made quite obvious when she recently asked her son to review her completed manuscript. “I said, ‘Hey … would you take a look at this?’ And he starts to read it and his eyes drifted to the television in front of him,” she laughs.

“I said, ‘You know what? You don’t have to read it.’ And he’s like, ‘I’ll finish it later Mommy’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, okay.’”

Despite the 48-year-old actress noting that “kids have very little interest in what you do — they’re supportive and they’re loving, but their degree of interest [isn't there]” — both Caleb and his younger sister Liv Helen, 7, got a kick out of Julianne’s second story, Freckleface Strawberry and the Dodgeball Bully.

Inquiring about the title, both kids questioned their mom about her childhood fear of dodgeballs. “My children laugh at me,” she says. “They’re like, ‘Why are you so scared of it Mommy? It’s just a ball!’” Clarifying that “there’s nothing particularly rational” about her fear, Julianne shares that as a child she shied away from the playground and received her enjoyment from books.
